Can’t find what you are looking for? Reach out to our department helpdesk for immediate assistance.

What are the minimum entry requirements for the undergraduate program?

A B+ applicant must meet the general JKUAT admission criteria. Specifically for our engineering degree, you require a minimum of a KCSE mean grade of a B+ (plus) and at least a B- (minus) in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and English.

How long does the undergraduate program take?

Our Bachelor of Science in Electronic and Computer Engineering is a full-time, 5-year undergraduate program divided into 10 academic semesters.

Where is the department located on campus?

The department offices, lecture rooms, and main engineering laboratories are located within the School of Electrical, Electronic, and Information Engineering (SEEIE) in the Engineering Main Building at the JKUAT Juja Main Campus.

What career opportunities are available to graduates of this program?

Our graduates are uniquely equipped for high-demand roles across hardware and software engineering sectors. They excel as embedded systems developers, robotics and automation engineers, IoT solutions architects, telecommunications engineers, and AI systems developers within technology enterprises, research institutions, and industrial manufacturing firms

Are students involved in research projects during their studies?

Yes. Undergraduates actively participate in innovative research through final-year engineering capstone projects. Students collaborate directly with faculty mentors and industry partners to develop practical solutions in embedded computing, automation systems, and telecommunications.

What research areas does the department focus on?

Our faculty and students conduct advanced research in embedded systems, digital hardware design, artificial intelligence and machine learning applications, control automation, and telecommunication systems.

Are there practical laboratory sessions for students?

Yes. The department has specialized engineering laboratories fully equipped for hands-on practicals in electronics, digital systems, embedded computing, and telecommunications to bridge theory with industry practice.

How does the department facilitate corporate networking and industry placements?

We maintain active partnerships with industry leaders like Safaricom, Oracle, SEACOM, and Roam Electric. Through these alliances, our students secure structured engineering internships, corporate mentorship, and exposure to industrial capstone projects that prepare them for direct entry into the technology sector.
